Artist Biography for this years Fairbanks Folk Fest Robin Sims was raised on everything homegrown beginning in the foothills of the Sierra Mountains. "My grandfather Elmer Jack played both harmonica and guitar on the porch constantly and we all sang at every event I can remember". Robin got her start in Alaska in 1974 staying with friends on an old homestead tucked deep in the Chugach Mountains near Symphony Lakes. Then she lived in a small cabin nestled in the Chugach hillside with 4 friends sharing belongings, one guitar, one VW bus, a bike, one skateboard, one hanglider, and one very big garden. "Dinner was served on the roof in the summer". Beginning in 1986, Robin designed her first log cabin and put draw knife in hand to begin peeling nearly 100 logs in Two Rivers Alaska."My sketch book and pen were never out of reach. I was a doodler with a mission". In 1992, Robin began Birdsong Graphics and initiated many first timer web pages such as Gangly Moose, St. Elias Mountain Guides, Denali Air, Rick Swenson, and a few others. Although she loved graphics, she dropped her buisiness to get back to her roots. Robin has been teaching children for over 28 years and loving the process of building our homegrown community. She was thrilled to be asked to create the logo for Fairbanks Fold Fest and gave it her homegrown best. | |
