To all Bluegrass Camp Participants:
Only a few weeks to go -- we are looking forward to another great week of music! Here are a few updates/reminders:
Cost: $200.
Arrival:
Please arrive between 9:30 & 10:00am, Monday, June 22nd. Be sure to provide your child's lunch for the day. We will have snacks. Look for the big welcoming red door, which is where we'll have the registration tables set up. You'll get your packet with individual class schedules and song books at that time.
Location:
The 2009 Bluegrass Camp will be at the Unitarian Fellowship Hall at 4448 Pike's Landing Road, across from the Princess Hotel. As you're driving toward the Fairbanks airport, you'll see an odd looking building with an airplane sticking out of the roof on the right. Turn right just after that at Pike's Restaurant, then immediately turn right again on the access road that goes past the airplane. Go about 2 tenths of a mile and turn left (towards the Chena River) on Pike's Landing Road. You'll see Princess Hotel on the left and the Unitarian Church driveway on the right. (note: for those of you who may be concerned about such matters, the Bluegrass camp is not affiliated with the Unitarian Universalist Fellowship of Fairbanks. We are leasing space from them, and they are very supportive of our educational goals).
Square Dance and BBQ (Wed, June 24th) :
The potluck BBQ and Square Dance is Wednesday, June 24th. We will begin re-gathering at the Unitarian Church grounds for the BBQ at 5:30pm, with the dance to follow afterwards inside. This activity is optional, (not part of the regular camp classes and activities), but lots of fun and a great way to introduce your kids to square dancing. Our dance band "Lost Dog" will be playing some hot old time Appalachian style square dance music (the "roots" of Bluegrass Music) with caller Lynn Basham. No previous experience is required.
Parent Volunteers:
We are always looking for parents to help out during the week, so don’t be shy about contacting us about volunteering. We'll have a number of jobs to help with, such as registration, tuning instruments (bring your tuners), making/serving snacks, lunch set up, helping with supplies and set up for the BBQ, clean up, etc.
Bearfoot in Concert: TBA
The 2009 Bearfoot Concert is being booked for sometime this fall as part of their statewide release celebration of their new CD "Doors and Windows" . Their fourth CD has just been released by Compass Records and was NUMBER ONE on the Billboard Magazine's bluegrass chart in May!!!. Check Bearfoot's websites for the latest.
