Leighton Nunez • Vocals / Mandolin / Guitar
Leighton Nunez was born in New Orleans and raised north of Lake Ponchartrain, in the Honey Island Swamp area of Slidell, Louisiana. Those piney woodlands and
cypress-lined waterways soon became his stomping grounds. His earliest musical influences came in the form of family. His Uncle Ken, a local musician, took him to
gigs from time to time. Grandma Ella played “Red Wing “ on the piano and the old a.m. radio, broadcasting the Grand Old Opry, could be heard in his home every
Saturday night. That tradition continues on today as both his partner Marie and his daughter Jessica accompany him as players in Lousiaska. Although never formally
trained in music, Leighton always had a guitar by his side. He gives thanks to every musician he has ever picked with for providing him with a piece of musical soul.
Though the pickin’ is not the only thing he learned to do in the Southland. Leighton wrote his first song in ’64 and hasn’t put the pen down since! All six of the songs he
wrote on the “Lousiaska Live” CD were written since his arrival in Alaska. Leighton enjoys the peace and serenity of new home in the town of Ester. With all the
magnificent scenery and the charm of life on the “Last Frontier” surrounding him, he is sure to write a couple more!
